Kwon Tied For 11th After Round One At C-USA Championship

First Round results

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Junior Eji Kwon posted a solid three-over par 75 to sit in a tie for 11th place after round one at the Conference USA women’s golf championship Monday afternoon at the Verandah club.

Kwon opened the front-9 with two birdies and was one-under heading to the back-9. Kwon had trouble on the par-4 third hole scoring a three-over par seven. She finished the round with five-straight pars to shoot a 75.

Sophomore Nyca Khaw finished one-shot behind Kwon with a four-over par 76. Khaw was consistent on the day shooting a 38 on the front-9 and a 38 on the back-9. Khaw ended her round with two birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey.

Freshman Samantha Huang fired a first-round 80 and scored her lone birdie on the par-4 18th hole. Classmate Kalli Jennings and sophomore Devin Edwards each finished with an 81. Edwards got off to a great start shooting a one-over par 37 on her first nine holes but struggled to a 44 on the final nine.

As a team, North Texas shot a 312 securing its best opening round since late October at the Pat Bradley Invitational (311) this past year.
