Cox Climbs Leaderboard At C-USA's
Lauren Cox Fired An Even-Par 72 On Day Two To Move To 16th
FORT MYERS, Florida - Sophomore Lauren Cox had a terrific day for the Mean Green on day two of the Conference USA Championships Tuesday, finishing the second round of action at even-par. She is in a tie for 16th place individually alongside teammate Sabina Pena.
The Mean Green remain in seventh place at 33-over-par after a three-stroke improvement from Monday. UT San Antonio remained the leader after two rounds of play, sitting at +10.
"Lauren bounced back and had a great round today," head coach Michael Akers said. "She lowered her putts from 36 to 27 and made a nice adjustment after her round yesterday. Unfortunately we didn't have much else to go with her 72."
Cox was seven shots better Tuesday, posting birdies on four holes and parring 11 more on a very consistent day. She birdied No. 1, went back-to-back on No. 8 and 9 and also birdied No. 12. Cox climbed 20 spots on the individual leaderboard.
Pena also sits in 16th with her teammate after a four-over 76 Tuesday. She birdied the 18th hole to help close the back nine at one-over.
"We had a nice practice after the round and addressed a few things," Akers said. "Our goal is to go out in the final round and post a great score. It would be nice to move up the leaderboard."
The third and final round tees off Wednesday morning beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT from the Old Orange course at the Verandah Club. Follow along with live scoring, courtesy of Golfstat.
