Cold Start To The Spring Season For NT In Corpus Christi
Mean Green In 12th Place After First Round
CORPUS CHRISTI – Brutally cold and windy conditions sent scores soaring and the golfers heading to the clubhouse as the North Texas women’s golf team began the spring season at the Islander Spring Classic. The tournament, originally set for 54 holes, was shortened to 36 holes as the teams were able to complete only one round before the second round was cancelled due to the conditions.
North Texas is alone in 12th place after the first round with a score of 333. No player in the field of 84 was able to break par on the day.
Laura DeLeonardis and Eji Kwon had the lowest rounds of the day for the Mean Green. The pair battled through the conditions to shoot at 10-over par 82. They are tied for 34th place. Maraea Durie is one stroke behind at 11-over par 83. Abbi Shaddix shot an opening round of 86 while Nyca Khaw shot an 91.
Lamar is the clubhouse leader heading into the final round tomorrow.
After the tournament was shortened to 36 holes, the final round tees off Tuesday morning.
