North Texas and Tulane are meeting for the fourth time in series history. Tulane has won all three meetings with North Texas. Last season was the first matchup between the two schools since 1981. The Green Wave won 55-47 in Denton last season. Tulane has a 2-0 record at home against North Texas, winning games in 1979 and 1981.
Senior post Sara Stanley scored a team-high 16 points against UTA including going 8-8 at the charity stripe, a mark that puts her in a tie for first all-time in North Texas history for single game free throw percentage (minimum eight attempts) . Her deadly accurate free throw fury throughout the season has vaulted to her fourth in the Sun Belt Conference in free throw percentage at 87 percent.
Pressing The Issue
Under the tutelage of first-year head coach Mike Petersen, the Mean Green is pressing throughout games forcing turnovers and creating steals at a record pace. NT is averaging 12.3 steals per game, three steals above the Division I average of 9.2 and at the current rate, the Mean Green is on the verge of breaking the school record of 370 steals set in the 1987-88 season.
North Texas was held to a season-low 50 points against UTA. It was the fewest points scored in a game since putting up only 36 against Denver in the regular season finale last season.....North Texas is 2-7 after the first nine games of the season, which is only the eighth time in school history the Mean Green has been 2-7 or worse after nine games.... North Texas had a season-high 18 steals against UTA. It was the seventh time this season that the Mean Green has had 11 steals or more in a game this season....Laura McCoy had her streak of 10 straight games of hitting at least on 3-pointer snapped when she failed to make one against UTA.
