NATCHITOCHES, La. (12/21/06) – Tricia Lee notched a career-high 17 points to fuel the North Texas women’s basketball team to a 77-66 win over Northwestern State at Prather Coliseum. The win is the first road victory over Northwestern State for North Texas (4-7) in the series.
“I really liked the way that we came out early and took control of the game,” said North Texas head coach Tina Slinker. “We had great balance and I was really happy with the way that Tricia and Erica Howard played today”.
With the game tied at 7-7, North Texas went on a 9-4 run to open up a 16-11 lead with 11:53 remaining in the first half. A 15-3 run two minutes later by North Texas extended its lead to 31-16 with 7:02 left in the first half.
The second half saw the Mean Green lead balloon to 21 points at 58-37 with 10 minutes left following a three-point play by Sanetra Jackson. The Demons (4-7) made one final run as a 3-pointer by Chassidy Jones cut the Mean Green lead to nine at 65-56 with three minutes left.
Lee had the answer though with a 3-pointer on the next possession to put the game away for North Texas.
Four players reached double figures for the Mean Green as Jackson had 14 points and Erica Howard had 10 points. Point guard Amanda Quattrocchi tied her career-high with 11 points as she had three 3-pointers in the game and dished out four assists.
North Texas is back in action on December 30 as the Mean Green return to Sun Belt Conference play at Western Kentucky.
