Medlock Notches Career-High 22 Points; North Texas Falls To SMU 70-66

Denton (12/21/03)- Junior guard Jill Medlock poured in a career-high 22 points but it was not enough to lift the North Texas (3-7) women's basketball team against SMU (3-4) as the Mustangs defeated the Mean Green 70-66 at the Super Pit. Medlock hit four 3-point baskets and connected on her 27th straight free throw but the Mean Green could not overcome a 14-3 run by SMU midway through the second half.

North Texas led 42-40 with 17:19 left in the second half when the Mustangs went on a 14-3 run to take a 54-45 lead. North Texas cut the SMU lead to 64-59 with under four minutes remaining on a 3-pointer by Medlock, but the Mustangs responded with consecutive baskets by Shanta Ramdhanny to ice the game.

North Texas opened the game with a 14-2 run but SMU came back with a 21-6 run of their own to take a 23-20 lead in the first half. The Mustangs took a three-point lead into the break at 38-35.

To go along with Medlock's 22 points she extended her school record streak at the free-throw line to 27 in a row with four free-throw's on the afternoon. Medlock has yet to miss at the line this season.

Senior forward Kim Blanton had her sixth career double-double as she had 10 points and collected a season-high 16 rebounds. As a team the Mean Green had a season-high 59 rebounds.

North Texas will be back in action on December 31 when they travel to Fort Worth to battle metroplex rival TCU.
