DENTON (12/19/07) The No. 20 Oklahoma State women’s basketball team pulled away from North Texas in the second half and secured a 77-55 victory against the Mean Green on Wednesday night at the Super Pit.
The Cowgirls extend their record to 9-1 overall and 10-1 in the series against the Mean Green. NT has now lost its fifth straight, falling to 5-7 overall.
Erica Howard led the Mean Green with a season-high 17 points. Jo Hall joined her in double figures with 14 points, and Yari Escalera posted a career-high 10 points.
OSU scored the last eight points of the first half end to build a double-digit lead and then extended it in the second half. The Cowgirls opened the second half with a 25-14 run to go ahead by 21 points, 40-61 with 10:05 left on the clock. OSU led by as many as 23 points, 73-50, with 2:05 left in the game.
After a short jumper by Hall, North Texas took its largest lead of the game, 17-11 at the 10:57 mark of the first half. The Cowgirls scored the next eight points to regain the lead, 18-17, for good.
The Cowgirls scored 24 points from the free throw line, while North Texas was 8-for-13 from the charity stripe.
