Mean Green Takes On Nationally-Ranked Texas On Sunday

Austin, Texas (12/16/05) - The North Texas women's basketball team takes its five-game winning streak on the road to face the Texas Longhorns on Sunday at 2 pm.

The Mean Green swept its three-game homestand, concluding it with a two-point win over UTEP, 60-58. Texas has not played since beating Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 8, 77-56.

Texas has won all nine meetings with the Mean Green. The Longhorns rallied to defeat North Texas last season,79-54, in Denton after trailing at the half. Texas won the last meeting in Austin, 91-50, in 2003. North Texas is 0-8 in Austin and the closest meeting came in 1997 when the Longhorns won 88-67.

At 7-1, North Texas is off to its second-best start in school history. In 2001-02, the Mean Green started the year perfect at 8-0. North Texas is also 5-0 at home to begin the season for the fourth time in school history and the first time since the 2001-02 season. North Texas has already won seven non-conference games this season, the most since the 2001-02 season.

Freshman Amber Jackson has now scored in double figures in five straight games. In that stretch she has averaged 12.2 points a game shot 49 percent from the floor.
