North Texas Drops 70-65 Decision To Weber State

Ogden, Utah (12/16/03)- The North Texas (3-5) women's basketball team ended their three-game road trip with a 70-65 loss to Weber State at the Dee Events Center. Weber State scored the game's opening basket, but the Mean Green responded with 13 unanswered points.  Senior forward Kim Blanton keyed the run with two short jumpers.

Weber would cut the lead to five points twice in the first half, but back-to-back Eagle baskets to
close the half extended the lead back to nine at 34-25.  In the second half, the Wildcats would continue to whittle away at the lead, and with 11:57 left to play, the lead was down to one at 46-45.

From that point, neither team would lead by more than four points until the final seconds, and the
lead would change hands seven times.

Two three-pointers by Julie Gjertsen and another by Kristen Hesselbach came at key moments
late in the half to either give Weber the lead or help keep UNT at bay.

Gjertsen and Angela Sampson would combine for five free throws in the final 40 seconds to seal
the win.

Gjersten led all players with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Sampson scored a season-high 15
points, hitting 4 of 6 shots from the floor and 7 of 9 from the line. Sheila Robertson chipped in
with 11 points off the bench.

Blanton led North Texas with 15 points, while Jill Medlock and Kelsie Edwards each added 13. The Mean Green return home December 19 for a battle with the Houston Cougars.
