DENTON, Texas - The North Texas women's basketball team is back at home for only the third time this season as they face Nicholls State tonight at the Super Pit. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be heard on 88.1 FM KNTU.
North Texas is perfect at home this season at 2-0 and they are looking for their first 3-0 start to the home season since 2007-08.
Since tossing in a career-high 23 points against Tulsa on November 27, Tamara Torru has been a completly different player for North Texas. Torru once again tied her career-high with 23 points against UTPA and was just one rebound shy of her second career double-double.
She has averaged a 14 points a game, an improvement of almost 10 points a game and shot the ball at a 44 percent clip, up from 27 percent throught he first five games.
Raquel Cuffie has been slowly building up her playing time as the year has gone on, and against UTPA she made a case for even more. Cuffie poured in a career-high 15 points in 18 minutes of action. She grabbed seven rebounds and was 5-for-7 from the floor, including a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the arc. In the previous 10 games, Cuffie had scored only seven total points in those games.
North Texas had one of the most complete offensive performances of the year against Sam Houston State. The Mean Green had five players score in double figures and four starters reach double figures in scoring. It is the first time this season that North Texas has had five players score in double figures and only the fourth time in the last 41 games.
The encore performance against UTPA was nearly as good with four players reaching double figures.
