Williams Scores Career-High 13 Points In 58-49 Victory

DENTON (12-11-04) Sophomore Mia Ajewku recorded her second career double-double to lead the North Texas women’s basketball team to a 58-49 victory against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night in the Super Pit.


The Mean Green (4-3) extended its winning streak at home to three games and has now won four of the last five games against the Indians (3-3).


Ajewju pulled down a career-high 13 points to go along with her 12 points in the game. As a team, the Mean Green recorded a season-best 53 rebounds and held the advantage against the Indians by 10.

Junior Erika Bobo recorded her sixth straight game in double figures with a team-high 14 points, and junior Mian Williams had a personal-best 13 points.

For the second straight game, North Texas made the first basket of the night and never looked back. The Mean Green jumped out to an early 11-3 lead behind 57.1 percent shooting from the field. Williams led NT in the run with five points.


The Mean Green was strong defensively, holding the Indians to 18 first-half points and 14.7 percent shooting from the field. Williams hit a three to keep North Texas ahead by eight, 26-18, at half.


North Texas led by as many as 13 in the second half, 35-22, after a jumper by Ajewku. The Indians cut the lead to seven, twice, but were unable to get any closer.


The Mean Green was 14-for-18 from the free throw line in the second half. Bobo was a perfect 8-for-8 from the line.


North Texas returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 16 in a doubleheader with the men’s team. The Mean Green hosts No. 4 Texas at 6 pm. in the Super Pit.
