TUCSON, AZ. (12/8/20) - Five players scored in double-figures as the North Texas (4-2) women's basketball team defeated UC-Riverside 82-66 at the McKale Center in the consolation game of the Fiesta Bowl Women's Basketball Classic. Heather Trout led the way with 16 points and connected on four three-pointers as the Lady Eagles broke their two-game losing streak.
North Texas jumped on the Highlanders early opening the game up with a 10-2 run in the first four minutes of the game. The Lady Eagles saw their led shrink to just one-point at 24-23 with 5:26 left in the first half until a three-pointer by freshman Erika Bobo sparked a 15-4 run to end the half and give North Texas a 39-27 lead at the break.
North Texas added to their lead to start the second half with a 16-6 run over the first 5:19 of the second half to make it 55-33. UC-Riverside got as close as 67-55 with 5:52 left in the game, but back-to-back three pointers by Emily Britt and Trout iced the game for North Texas.
Britt ended the afternoon with nine points and eight rebounds in her first career start. Bobo poured in a career-high 12 points and dished out eight assists. Kim Blanton reached double figures for the sixth straight game as she added 13 points and Armstrong came off the bench to score 13 points.
North Texas returns home Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to face off with the Indiana Hoosiers.
