NACOGDOCHES, Tex. (12/7/06) In a game that saw 16 lead changes, Stephen F. Austin was able to hold off the North Texas women’s basketball team for a 75-68 win at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The win improves Stephen F. Austin to 6-3 while North Texas falls to 2-5 on the year.
“It was really a tough battle out there and the game really could have gone either way,” said North Texas head coach Tina Slinker. “I was really proud of our effort and we never gave up and kept coming at them and I think we have a lot to build on from this game”
In a see-saw battle, the Ladyjacks outscored the Mean Green 9-2 in the final 2:10 of the game to pull away from North Texas
The Mean Green led by one-point at the break, 38-37, and the second half featured 11 lead changes. Freshman Brittney James gave North Texas its largest second half lead at four with a 3-pointer to make it 57-153 with 10 minutes remaining.
The two teams continued to trade buckets until Charity Egenti single handily fueled an 8-0 run by the Ladyjacks as she scored all eight points in the run.
Sophomore Tricia Lee ended the game with a career-high 14 points and nine rebounds as James also reached double figures with 12 points in just 11 minutes off the bench.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, December 9 with a visit to metroplex rival SMU.
