Houston's First Half Charge Downs North Texas, 80-66

DENTON, Texas (12/2/08) The Houston Cougars 13-0 run to end the first half proved to be too much for the Mean Green women’s basketball team to overcome in an 80-66 loss in the home opener Tuesday night at the Super Pit.

Amber Jackson scored 21 points to lead North Texas as she became the 10th player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark with 1,008 current points.

However, the Mean Green (3-3) struggled from the field shooting only 28 percent, including 21 percent from three point territory (5-of-23). North Texas also had 24 turnovers for the game and allowed four Houston players to score in double figures, including a game-high 23 points from Porsche Landry.

After trailing by as many as 19 points in the second half, the Mean Green managed to trim the lead to 72-63 with 2:17 remaining in the contest, but could not draw any closer.

North Texas will look to bounce back against Valparaiso at home on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. Houston improved to 4-2 on the season and will next host Texas Southern.
