DENTON, Texas - North Texas senior Tamara Torru was named Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. In addition, Torru was named College Sports Madness Sun Belt Player of the Week.
Torru scored 20+ points in back-to-back games for the first time in her career, helped the Mean Green to their first win over SMU since 2005-06 and to its first 4-1 start since 2005-06 before falling to Arizona.
She set a career-high against Arizona, scoring 26 points and pulling down a season-high 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.Torru hit five 3-pointers against Arizona, the most in a game by a Mean Green player since 2008.
She has scored in double figures in all six of the Mean Green's games this season, the only North Texas player to do so. Torru scored the first eight points of the game against Texas State, en route to an eventual 61-43 blowout.
The weekly honor is the first for the Mean Green this season.
The Mean Green return to action on Dec. 2, as it takes on Oregon State in the Gene Hackerman Invitational at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston. Tip is at 5 p.m.
