SAN ANTONIO, Texas- North Texas fell 83-75 to Tulsa in their last game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic at the UTSA Convocation Center. Tamara Torru paced the way for the Mean Green with her first career double-double.
North Texas jumped out to a 11-5 lead by the 15:19 mark of the first half, but the Golden Hurricane led 32-31 entering the break. Tulsa stretched the lead to 15 with 3:59 remaining in the second half, but North Texas cut the lead back to six in the last minute of play, before Tulsa stretched it out to the final margin of eight.
The Mean Green fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Golden Hurricane improve to 2-2 on the year.
North Texas made a season-high 22 free throws, and shot a season-high 75.9% from the line. North Texas outscored Tulsa 26-18 on points off turnovers, but it was not enough to overcome the Golden Hurricane.
Tamara Torru posted a career-high 23 points and added a career-high 10 rebounds to earn her first career double-double. This is Torru's first 20+ point effort of her career. Torru made 11 free throws, the most free throws made in a single game by a Mean Green player this year. Torru filled up the stat sheet, setting a career-high with five steals, two assists and a block.
Denetra Kellum scored 17 points, giving her double figures in scoring for the fifth time in six games this season. She is now averaging 15.7 points per game on the season.
Jasmine Godbolt reached double figures in scoring again, scoring 17, and has scored 14 or more points in every game so far this season. Godbolt is now averaging 17.3 points per game on the season, and her nine rebounds leave her one short of her second-straight double-double.
North Texas returns to action on Tuesday, November 30 at 7 p.m. as they take on Drake from the Missouri Valley Conference in Des Moines, Iowa. The Mean Green return to the Super Pit on December 8th as they host Sam Houston State at 7 p.m.
