SAN ANTONIO, Texas- North Texas was unable to overcome a quick start by Davidson, and fell 70-55 to the Wildcats in the first game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic at the UTSA Convocation Center. Jamine Godbolt had her 10th career double-double as she had a career-high 16 rebounds and scored 18 points.
Godbolt, with 18 points, has scored 14 or more in all five games this season and is averaging 17.4 points per game. Her 16 rebounds make this her first double-digit rebound game of the season and first double-double of 2010-11.
North Texas dominated the offensive glass, posting a season-high 23 offensive rebounds, and only allowed Davidson to corral nine offensive boards. North Texas' advantage on the offensive glass led the Mean Green to 19 second chance points. The Mean Green bench outscored Davidson's bench 20-6. North Texas took a season-high 80 field goal attempts.
The Mean Green posted a season-low 10 turnovers, and had 12 assists on the evening. Kasondra Foreman led the way with five assists, her fourth 5+ assist game in five games this season.
Denetra Kellum scored 10 points, her fourth double-digit scoring effort in five games this season. For the season, Kellum is averaging 15.4 points. Laura McCoy tied a career-high by sinking three 3-point shots and set a career-high with three steals.
Davidson had a 34-19 halftime lead, but North Texas and Davidson played to a 36-36 tie in the second half. North Texas falls to 1-4 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 2-3.
The Mean Green play their second and final game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, November 27, as they take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 3 p.m.
