DURHAM, N.H. (11/26/05) Boston College (4-1) used a first half run of 23-0 to power past the North Texas (2-1) women’s basketball team in the first round of the UNH Wildcat Classic 62-46 from Lundholm Gymnasium. The Mean Green will now face the Cornell Big Red in the consolation game tomorrow at 12 p.m.
“They are a very good defensive team and we came out and made some mistakes that they took advantage of,” North Texas head coach Tina Slinker said. “We had a stretch where we just couldn’t get anything to fall for us and that really hurt”.
In a tight defensive struggled to begin the game, North Texas went on a 7-0 run and led the Eagles 10-7 with 11:32 remaining in the first half. That’s when Boston College exploded with a 23-0 run over the next 11 minutes keyed by eight North Texas turnovers.
The Eagles took a 30-12 lead into the halftime break.
North Texas got as close as 13 points in the second half at 49-36 with seven minutes to play, but Boston College forward Brooke Queenan, who finished with a double-double, answered with four straight points.
“They are a very physical team and we need to learn to play more consistent,” Slinker said.
Freshman Sanetra Jackson led North Texas with nine points as the Mean Green struggled from the floor shooting just 31 percent.
Queenan led both teams with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
