Mean Green Storylines

• Meetin' The Lopes
This is North Texas’ first bout with the mighty Lopes of the Grand Canyon. GCU, based in Phoenix, Ariz., is a WAC school in its first season of D-1 play. GCU is a member of the WAC.

• Protecting The Pit
North Texas hosted its first home tournament since the Mean Green Classic of 1981. Officially titled the “Hospitality Hill Challenge,” The Mean Green welcomed in three schools for a weekend tournament sponsored by the Courtyard Marriot, Best Western and Hilton Garden Inn Denton. NT swept its two opponents, Abilene Christian and Bethune-Cookman, by a combined 47 points. On the other end, the Grand Canyon Lopes won their two matches against the same opponents as well. The Mean Green now hosts GCU in a clash of undefeated Hospitality Hill Challenge contestants.

• On the Defensive
Following a subpar defensive year last season, NT has stepped it up and is first in C-USA in 3-pt fg percentage defense, holding its opponents to 22.2 percent from beyond the arc.

• Freshmen Figuring It Out
The freshman combo of Candice Adams and Terra Ellison emerged against Bethune-Cookman as Adams had four points and three assists after starting her second career game at the point guard spot. Ellison, in only eight minutes of play, totaled nine points and three rebounds.
