SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The North Texas women's basketball team looks to feast on the competition as they head to the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic to face Davidson Friday night and Tulsa Saturday afternoon.
The Mean Green being the tournament at 5 p.m. against Davidson and the game can be heard on 88.1 FM KNTU.
After winning its season opener against Stephen F. Austin, the Mean Green has dropped three straight games, all on the road. Davidson is 1-3 on the year with losses at UALR, Arkansas, and Winthrop. Their lone win came at home against William & Mary. Tulsa is 1-1 on the season after beat Oral Roberts 86-85 on November 16.
It was one of the best night's in a Mean Green uniform for Denetra Kellum against Sam Houston State. Kellum scored a career-high 30 points, topping the 30-point mark for the first time in her career and the 20-point mark for just the second time.
The 30-points scored by Kellum were the most by a North Texas player since Tricia Lee scored 30 against ULM on February 18, 2009. Kellum did more than just score as she dished out a career-high four assists in the game.
North Texas in their last two outings has struggled connecting on the 3-pointer. The Mean Green after the first two games had hit 15-of- 35 3-pointers, good for 43 percent. Since then it has been a struggle as North Texas has hit just 7-of-48 from behind the arc, good for just 14 percent.
Against George Washington North Texas hit only 4-for-27 and against Sam Houston State is went 3-for-21. For the year North Texas is shooting only 26 percent for the season.
