DENTON (11/22/05) - The North Texas women's basketball team returns to action with a match-up against Southern Arkansas on Tuesday at 7 pm in the Super Pit. The Mean Green beat Stephen F. Austin to start the year and is looking to start the season off at 2-0 for the first since the 2002-03 season.
North Texas and Southern Arkansas will be meeting for the first time.
Slinker Reaches Another Milestone
Head coach Tina Slinker captured her 200th career win with a 71-65 victory over Stephen F. Austin. Slinker is the all-time leader in wins at North Texas and has guided the Mean Green to two 20-win seasons. She is second in wins among active coaches in the Sun Belt Conference.
Offense Gets Going
The North Texas offense found its stride in hitting the 70 point mark to start the season off. The Mean Green reached the 70 point mark for only the fourth time in its past 39 games. North Texas is unbeaten in those four games when scoring 70 points or more. Under Coach Slinker the Mean Green has a record of 121-45 when scoring 70 points or more, which equates to a winning percentage of .729.
Bobo Come Through
Senior guard Erika Bobo notched her third career double-double in the win over Stephen F. Austin. Along with a double-double, Bobo dished out six assists and had four steals and moved up to sixth all-time in steals and seventh in assists at North Texas. Bobo has now scored in double figures in 10 straight games.
For the fifth straight season, all home and away North Texas basketball games can be heard on KNTU-FM (88.) which broadcast at 100,000 watts from the North Texas campus and can be heard throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth Region. In his second season as "Voice of North Texas women’s basketball" Steven Bartolotta will handle the play-by-play duties.
