Mean Green Storylines:
NT faces 13th ranked Texas A&M on Nov. 11. In its last meeting with a ranked opponent, against #13 Oklahoma in Norman last season, the Mean Green came within three points, 71-68, of pulling off the upset. Alexis Hyder had 15 pts in the game.
NT head coach Mike Petersen and Aggie commander Gary Blair have split their all-time series 1-1 with coach Blair taking the first contest as a member of the SFA Jacks in the 1992-93 season over coach Petersen's New Mexico St. crew. Coach Pete snagged the second meeting between the two in the Virgin Islands a mere six seasons ago when his Lady Deacons brought down Blair's ranked Aggie unit.
Hoppin' Past The Roos
NT began the season 1-0 for the first time since 2011-12. In its opening contest, NT saw four players score in double figures including newcomer Joh'Vonna Darrington, who saw extended minutes in her first Mean Green appearance. She tallied 10 points and five boards, three of which were offensive.
North Texas improved to 25-13 in home openers all-time with the Roo victory. The Mean Green has won eight of its last 11 and has taken three of the last four.
The Mean Green's leading scorer from a year ago, sophomore Alexis Hyder, came out strong in her first performance despite foul trouble hampering her minutes. She was an effecient 6-11 from the field for 13 points and eight boards in only 19 minutes of play.
Tac'ing On Some Points
Sophomore Acheil Tac, in her first career start, recorded a double-double, also her first. Her 13 points and 10 rebounds were also career-high marks.
In the season-opening win over the Roos, NT utilized 12 different players. The Mean Green never used more than 10 in any contest last season, showing improved depth and options for coach Petersen.
