DENTON (11/3/06) - Three players scored in double figures to lead the North Texas women’s basketball team to an 80-67 exhibition victory on Friday night in the Super Pit.
The Mean Green defeated the Jaguars for the second consecutive year. North Texas opens its regular season on Friday, November 10 when it plays Baylor in the WNIT.
All 14 Mean Green players saw action in the exhibition game. Erica Howard and Tricia Lee led North Texas with 11 points each. Newcomer Brittney James joined the upperclassmen in double figures with 10 points.
North Texas jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Jaguars struggled offensively, shooting 27.8 percent from the field.
North Texas shot 41 percent from the field in the first half as the Mean Green quickly built a double-digit lead. A layup by Erica Howard put the Mean Green ahead by 11, 19-8, with 10:27 left in the first period. North Texas led by as many as 18 in the first half.
The Mean Green raced out to a 12-4 run to start off the second half, extending its lead to 25 points.
