Newcomer Flannigan Wows Crowd At Basketball Madness Event
North Texas' Annual Basketball Madness Event Gives Crowd Early Taste of Hoops
Oct. 10, 2013
DENTON, Texas - On a night filled with food, fun and lots of basketball, the Mean Green faithful enjoyed a spectacular introduction to the North Texas men's and women's hoops teams and got the first glimpse of the new Super Pit video board!
The women's hoops team took the court for the first green and white scrimmage, and highly-touted freshman Candice Adams stole the show when she pickpocketed a green guard on the perimeter for the easy score.
Armed with seven newcomers, Tony Benford's unit was next up and didn't disappoint. Well-dressed Armani Flannigan, a junior transfer, elevated for multiple dunks to energize the crowd, while returning fan favorite Jordan Williams had a reverse slam of his own during the exhibition. And, of course, it wouldn't be a NT men's hoops scrimmage without the weatherman, senior Brandon Walton, making it rain.
Speaking of the weatherman, he didn't stop there. When combined with senior captain Laura McCoy of the women's team in the 3-point contest, the dyanamic and ranged duo took the cake with relative ease.
Last but certainly not least came the dunk contest. With judges like former North Texas forward Jacob Holmen and Dallas Mavericks forward Jae Crowder on hand, the suspense in the Super Pit was real. But it wasn't defending dunk champion JW23 that took the cake, it was none other than well-dressed Armani Flannigan, wowing the crowd with his leaping dunk over the top of George Mason transfer Vertrail Vaughns, who won the prestigious competition.
Mean Green fans will get plenty more chances to see the video board, new floor and, of course, North Texas men's and women's hoops beginning with a men's exhibition game on Nov. 1 against Oklahoma City at 7 p.m.
