DENTON, Texas - The 2010-11 North Texas women's basketball schedule is complete and the Mean Green is facing some of the top teams in the nation. The schedule features battles with George Washington, Drake, Mississippi State, and Arizona. North Texas faces six teams that advanced to post-season play last season, including three that went to the NCAA tournament and one that advanced to the Sweet 16.
North Texas also plays 18 games away from home this season and eight straight road games early in the season, which is the second longest road trip in school history.
"This year's schedule is quite challenging and one that is heavy with road games early in the season," said head coach Shanice Stephens. "We wanted to schedule a daunting non-conference in order to prepare us for the Sun Belt Conference. Western Kentucky, UALR, MTSU, Denver and USA still remain at the top of our conference. Our goal this year is to be highly competitive and this very well can be our break out season."
The regular season starts on Nov. 12 at home against Stephen F. Austin. North Texas then hits the road for eight straight starting with a visit to Oral Roberts.
The road trip features games at Drake and Mississippi State, which the Mean Green will face both teams for the first time since 1977. The Bulldogs advanced to the Sweet 16 last season.
The road trip concludes with a game at SMU on Dec. 7.
North Texas opens Sun Belt Conference play on Dec. 30 at home against West Division champion UALR. The Mean Green travels to Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee but has home dates with South Alabama, FIU, and Florida Atlantic.
The 2011 Sun Belt Conference Tournament takes place March 5-8 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
