Mean Green Women's Basketball Announces Non-Conference Schedule
North Texas Hosts Seven Games
DENTON — The North Texas women’s basketball team has released its 2017-18 non-conference schedule. It features seven of its 12 non-conference games at home and three schools that reached postseasons last year.
The Mean Green’s seven non-conference home games are the most under third-year head coach Jalie Mitchell. Additionally, for the third year in a row, North Texas welcomes a power-five opponent to the Super Pit. The Mean Green host Kansas State on Nov. 19. The Wildcats reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. North Texas has beaten a power-five team every year under Mitchell.

“After spending a lot of time on the road last season we felt that it was important to address this for the coming year,” Mitchell said. “Non-conference is the time to compete, learn and prepare for conference play.”
Fans will be able to get their first look at the team on Nov. 4 when the Mean Green host Texas Woman’s University in an exhibition game. North Texas’ first regular season game is at home versus Mid American Christian on Nov. 10.
North Texas’ first three non-conference games are at home and they will not play a true road game until Dec. 5 when they travel to Indiana. North Texas will hit the road over the Thanksgiving weekend when they play Coastal Carolina and Detroit in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.
The Mean Green are hosting Metroplex rival SMU on Nov. 29 and close out the non-conference schedule at home on Dec. 30 against Panhandle State.
North Texas has increased its home attendance each year under Mitchell and last season saw a 33 percent increase from 2015-16 and its highest home attendance since 2009.
“We wanted this schedule to encourage even more support and give our fans the advantage of seeing us often,” Mitchell said.
Other than Indiana, North Texas’ only other true road non-conference games are University of Illinois, Chicago (Dec. 18) and Eastern Illinois (Dec. 20).
“We will be challenged on all levels and with enough styles of play to feel ready for a championship run by January,” Mitchell said.
Game times will be announced later on. North Texas’ Conference USA schedule will be unveiled soon. Season tickets are available on the meangreensports.com ticket page or by calling the ticket office at 940-565-2527.
