Mean Green Announce 2016 Non-Conference Schedule
North Texas Set To Compete In Preseason NIT, Face Off At Arizona, Host Indiana
DENTON – North Texas women’s basketball head coach Jalie Mitchell announced the 2016 non-conference schedule on Wednesday afternoon; headlined by an appearance in the preseason National Invitation Tournament, as well as a visit from Big Ten foe Indiana and a trip to Tucson to battle Arizona out of the Pac-12.
“We will be challenged early and often with our non-conference schedule,” Mitchell said. “In preparation for our Conference USA opponents, we are very excited about the opportunity to compete in the Preseason WNIT. We will also be road-tested after all is said and done, but we are happy to host two teams in Iona and Indiana that, along with Arkansas-Little Rock, participated in the NCAA tournament last season. I am eager to see our team’s growth and how we respond to the expectations that have been set.”
The Mean Green open with an exhibition game against Texas Woman’s University on Nov. 6 at The Super Pit before opening the regular season with the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 11 at Little Rock, which will be followed by round two; either Nov. 13 or 14. The semifinal and final will be held on Nov. 17 and Nov. 20, respectively.
North Texas then travels to Tucson to tussle with the Arizona Wildcats on Nov. 22; returning to Denton for the home opener on Nov. 26 to host Iona, who won the MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) tournament in 2015.
Road dates with SMU and Tulsa are next on the docket for Mitchell and the Mean Green on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3. They then return to The Super Pit for home tilts against Indiana and the University of the Incarnate Word on Dec. 6 and Dec. 10 in Denton.
The non-conference schedule concludes with a road trip to Springfield, Missouri, on Dec. 17 to take on the Lady Bears of Missouri State and a home game against the Texas State Bobcats on Dec. 22.
The Conference USA schedule will be released at a later date.
