DENTON, Texas - The rebuilding of the North Texas women's basketball team continues as former Cedar Hill star and Wichita State guard BreAnna Dawkins has signed with the Mean Green.
Dawkins, a Wichita State transfer who played her high school basketball at Cedar Hill, will have to sit out next season but has three years of eligibility left at North Texas.
"I am absolutely thrilled to add Bre to the program here at North Texas," said head coach Karen Aston. "She brings a dynamic personality and experience at this level. More than anything, I am pleased to continue to bring in players from winning programs, as is Cedar Hill. She will make an immediate impact for the Mean Green when she becomes eligible."
Dawkins started 28 games last season at Wichita State and was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman team. She scored 5.6 points a game and dished out 89 assists to go along with 54 steals on the year.
At Cedar Hill Dawkins was a Class 5A all-state selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) in 2010. She led Cedar Hill to the school's first ever national ranking in the USA Today Super 25, the Class 5A semifinals and Dawkins was named to the All-Tournament team.
As a senior, Dawkins averaged 11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and two steals a game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 32 percent from 3-point range and was a first-team all-area selection by the Dallas Morning News.
