May 16, 2015

Mitchell was named head coach of the North Texas women's basketball team on April 9, 2015. Between moving back to Denton, getting to know the team and beginning to operate the Mean Green program, Mitchell will be very busy early on in her tenure. We want to give fans an in-depth look at her #First44 days on the job in the form of a 44-part series that will run from April 10-May 23.

Kelby Jones enters his fourth season as director of managerial operations with the North Texas women's basketball program. His responsibilities include setting up and assisting with practice, as well as the maintaining of game uniforms, practice uniforms and basketball equipment.

"I'm so excited to work for Coach Mitchell and her amazing staff," Jones said. "I look forward to helping her instill a family culture and get the program back to the winning ways, like it was when she was a player here. I'm extremely grateful to be able to learn under a great coach and an even better person."

"Kelby has been such a breath of fresh air for me and my staff; he has been there from Day 1 to make sure we have everything we need," head coach Jalie Mitchell said. "I've been impressed with his initiative, his love for the game and his passion for the program. Those things allow me to do my job without worrying about anything slipping through the cracks. I'm very fortunate to have Kelby on our team."

After graduating from Pottsboro High School in 2012, Jones reached out to the Mean Green staff in an attempt to get started on his dream of coaching college basketball. From Day 1, he served as the head team manager, and has done so for the past three seasons. Jones will graduate in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology; he will then attempt to pursue a graduate assistant coaching position at the Division I level.
