Women's Basketball Signs Final Recruit In Grace Goodhart

May 12, 2016

DENTON — Head coach Jalie Mitchell and the North Texas women’s basketball team announced the addition of Grace Goodhart on Thursday. Goodhart - a freshman for Loyola last season - will sit out during the 2016-17 campaign after signing a scholarship agreement with the Mean Green, per NCAA transfer guidelines.

A highly-touted high school recruit and former McDonald’s All-American nominee, Goodhart was a four-year letterwinner in nearby Sunnyvale, where she led the Raiders to a Texas 3A State Championship. Mitchell believes the Mean Green’s latest addition will be a key piece to the lineup once she becomes eligible in 2017-18.

“I had the pleasure of watching Grace compete in high school, and she would have everyone in the stands energized with her fire and gutsy play,” Mitchell said. “She is fearless and I am happy to wrap up our recruiting class with another state champion from the metroplex. Grace can shoot lights out off the catch or dribble. She has enough savvy to get to the rim and, most importantly, she has the intangibles we look for.”

The 5-foot-9 Goodhart most recently spent time at Loyola, where she concluded the year with a Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team selection. She played in all 30 games for the Ramblers while averaging 6.6 points and 1.1 assists per contest. A lethal threat from long range, Goodhart led Loyola with 40 made three-pointers on the season.

Goodhart ended up at Loyola’s Chicago campus after a dominant four-year stint with Sunnyvale High. She averaged 17.1 points, 6 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game as a senior while leading SHS to a state title. For her efforts, Goodhart was named the Texas 3A State Championship’s Most Valuable Player, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 3A Player of the Year and a 2014-15 nominee for McDonald’s All-American consideration.

Despite having to sit out in the upcoming 2016-17 basketball season, the North Texas coaching staff is confident that Goodhart’s work ethic and attitude can positively impact her teammates - even from the sideline.

“Grace fits right in to the culture we have started to build here and she will do whatever it takes to help us get to the top,” Mitchell added. “We need a hard-working winner like her to push our team next season as we prepare to take a big step forward in the program.”
