DENTON, Texas - North Texas women's basketball coach Mike Petersen announced today that Hannan Christian, a TCU transfer via Weatherford College, has signed with the Mean Green. Christian, a prolific scoring point guard who played at Aledo High School, was the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year last season.
"We are just delighted that Hannah has chosen to be part of the Mean Green basketball family," said Petersen. "She has a great basketball IQ and a great feel for the game which makes her such a complete player. What makes Hannah so great is that she can score, distribute, and is so versatile on the floor that she is hard to stop."
Christian was named to the second-team all NTJCAC last season as she posted a triple double, 17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in one game against Temple JC on February 4. For the year she averaged 8.3 points a game and dished out 7.6 assists per game, which was third in the nation.
In 28 games this season, Christian had seven or more assists in 21 of those games. Christian originally signed and played one season for TCU in 2009-10. During her freshman year, she played in 23 of 31 games for TCU. She redshirted in 2010-11 before transferring to Weatherford last season.
In high school Christian was a prolific scorer who ended her four-year career at Aledo scoring 2,537 points. She was a three-time TGCA All-State player (2007, 2008, 2009) was named the District 6-4A MVP in 2009, when she averaged 19.1 points a game with 8.2 assists.
As a junior she was the 8-4A District MVP and was the Offensive Player of the Year in District 8-4A as a freshman. In her freshman season, Christian averaged 21.1 points a game, 21 points a game as a sophomore, and 16.8 points in her junior season.
She was ranked the No. 57 guard prospect in the nation by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. Christian will have two years of eligibility with North Texas.
