Highly Sought After Guard Signs With North Texas

DENTON, Texas. (5/5/09) North Texas women’s basketball coach Shanice Stephens continued her stockpiling of talent with the signing of guard Denetra Kellum to a National Letter of Intent. Kellum, a guard at Kilgore Junior College last season, was an All-Region and All-Conference player last season.

“Denetra is an incredible scorer and a sensational athlete, which will add to our up tempo style of play,” said Stephens. “She was a highly sought after recruit who has a complete game which will aid in our aggressive, offensive arsenal. Her work ethic will continue to propel her into an elite class of competitor.”

Kellum averaged 15 points and six rebounds a game last season as she was named to the All-Region and All-Conference team. She shot 47 percent from the field and averaged 3.6 assists per game and 1.8 steals per contest.

In the Region XIV Tournament, Kellum was one of six players to be named to the all-tournament team. She averaged 20 points in three tournament games and led all scorers with 60 points for the tournament.

Kellum was a highly recruited player who chose North Texas over Alabama and Texas Tech.
