#First44 Day 21: Spring Workouts Come to Close
Mitchell Recaps First Few Weeks With Team
Mitchell was named head coach of the North Texas women's basketball team on April 9, 2015. Between moving back to Denton, getting to know the team and beginning to operate the Mean Green program, Mitchell will be very busy early on in her tenure. We want to give fans an in-depth look at her #First44 days on the job in the form of a 44-part series that will run from April 10-May 23.
For the Mean Green women's basketball team, the end of April means the end of individual workouts. With Jalie Mitchell being hired on April 9, that means she had only three weeks to work with her new players before spring workouts ended. But they all made the time count, and the new head coach is happy with the way the team has responded.
"Coming in to a new situation, I had no idea what to expect from this team. Thankfully, I have been pleasantly surprised," she said. "Each of them brings something different to the table, be it energy, leadership, effort, discipline, etc. I can tell they want to get better and they want to help build a solid foundation for this program to stand on."
Since spring term at North Texas ends in two weeks, the student-athletes will most likely then head home until Summer 1 begins on June 8; which is when NCAA regulations allow organized practices to resume. So for the next month, Mitchell and her coaching staff will focus mostly on getting settled into Denton and planning for the summer workouts.
