DENTON, Texas - Newly signed North Texas women's basketball player Desiree' Nelson has picked up a prestigious award off the court as she was named to the TABC 2009-10 Academic All-State team. Nelson, a standout performer on the floor at Copperas Cove High School, was one of only 48 players selected for the team in Class 5A from across the state.
To be eligible for TABC Academic All-State recognition, a player had to be a graduating senior all-district performer who maintained a grade-point average of 90 or better for the previous seven semesters.
Nelson was the leading scorer for Copperas Cove this year as she poured in 15.7 points a game and had three 20-point games this year. She was named the District 12-5A Defensive MVP and was an all-region selection by the TABC.
Nelson will be a freshman this upcoming season for the Mean Green.
