#First44 Day 7: Nikes (Finally) on My Feet

April 16, 2015

Mitchell was named head coach of the North Texas women's basketball team on April 9, 2015. Between moving back to Denton, getting to know the team and beginning to operate the Mean Green program, Mitchell will be very busy early on in her tenure. We want to give fans an in-depth look at her #First44 days on the job in the form of a 44-part series that will run from April 10-May 23.

You know that awesome feeling when you put on a fresh pair of shoes for the first time? Imagine having to wait three years from the time you buy the shoes to the first time you wear them. Well, that is what happened to Jalie Mitchell when she bought a beautiful pair of green Nike Air Max 360s, but then moved to Austin to work for the Longhorns.

The folks at Texas would not have taken too kindly to a pair of Mean Green kicks on the feet of their assistant women's basketball coach. So in the closet they stayed, until Mitchell made her return to Denton last week.

"I purchased them a few years ago in hopes that I could wear them on the recruiting trail," she said. "Instead, I had to box them up and move them to Austin. Since I'm back home now, it's only right that I bring them out for the very first time."

Of course, Mitchell's retired No. 44 is on the heel, a personalized touch made possible by ordering them from Nike ID. Well, that is one fewer item head manager Kelby Jones needs to worry about giving out to North Texas' new head coach.
