Middle Tennessee Women Win SBC Title

DENTON (3/8/05) - The Middle Tennessee women's basketball team won the Sun Belt Conference Championship and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with its 67-52 victory against Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday afternoon in the Super Pit.

The Lady Raiders won its eighth conference title and will be making its ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Senior Patrice Holmes was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player for the third straight year. Chrissy Givens and Tia Stovall were named to the all-tournament team from Middle Tennessee.

Stovall made the first basket of the game and MT never looked back. The Lady Raiders gained a double digit lead midway through the first half and extended it to as many as 19 in the second half.

Louisiana-Lafayette was making its first appearance in the SBC Championship game after winning its first two conference tournament games for the first time in school history. Anna Petrakova was named to the all-tournament team for the Ragin' Cajuns.
