The Women's Final Is Set

DENTON (3/7/05) - Louisiana-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee will face each other in the Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Championship on Tuesday at 3 pm.

The Ragin' Cajuns defeated Arkansas State, 61-49, on Monday to advance to the conference finals for the first time in school history. Its opening win against FIU marked the Ragin' Cajuns first SBC tournament win in 13 attempts. Anna Petrakova has combined for 38 points and 28 rebounds in UL Lafayette's two games, including her 14-point, 18-rebound performance against ASU.

The No. 2 seeded Middle Tennessee women came back to defeat top-seeded Western Kentucky, 65-61, in the second semifinal game. WKU leads the series with MT, 20-15. Senior Patrice Holmes hit the game-winning three-pointer for the Lady Raiders. She connected on 5-of-10 three-pointers in the game and finished with a team-high 21 points.

The win puts MT in position of defending last year's tournament championship, which it won with a 79-57 win against Western Kentucky. The Lady Raiders has won at least one game in all six SBC Tournaments it has played in since the joining the league.
