BOWLING GREEN, Ky.(3/6/03)-- The North Texas women's basketball team advanced to the second round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament with a 70-59 win over a pesky Arkansas-Little Rock team at the E.A. Diddle Arena. The Lady Eagles (12-15) will now face the the top-seeded Western Kentucky Lady Toppers on Saturday.
North Texas came out sluggish as they trailed the Trojans by four points at the half 32-28. Arkansas-Little Rock held onto the lead with 16:06 left at 40-38 until the Lady Eagles reeled off an 11-2 run sparked by freshman point guard Erika Bobo to give North Texas a 49-42 lead with 11:58. Bobo ended the night with 15 points, four rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Eagles were able to hold off a Trojan comeback when Heather Trout connected on her third 3-point basket of the second half to give the Lady Eagles a 58-53 with 6:30 remaining. Trout finished the night with 14 points and nine assists.
The Trojans were lead by Eplunus Brooks who had 27 points and 15 rebounds, both game highs, but never got closer than five points late in the game. Junior Emily Britt came off the bench to score 13 points for the Lady Eagles on six-of-eight shooting.
The Lady Eagles have faced the Lady Toppers once earlier this season with Western Kentucky coming away with an 89-85 win in overtime.
