MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (3/4/06) - Ronnie Maglaughlin and Adrianne Davie combined for 37 points to help Arkansas State eliminate No. 1 West seed North Texas 78-62 on Saturday in quarterfinal action of the Aropostale Sun Belt Conference women’s basketball championship on Saturday at the Murphy Center. Erika Bobo scored 16 points while Mia Ajekwu added 15 for the Mean Green.
“They played a great game tonight, you have to give them a lot of credit for coming out as strong as they did,” said North Texas head coach Tina Slinker. “This is a tough loss to take because we came in here with hopes of winning the tournament and going to the NCAA’s”.
North Texas trailed by eight at 20-12 with 11:32 left in the first half before making a run of 8-2 to trim the Indians lead to just two at 22-20.
Arkansas State responded with seven straight points to make it 29-20 with 3:20 to go in the first half. The Indians took 37-28 lead at the break.
The Mean Green fell behind 49-31 three minutes into the second half as the Indians opened with a 12-3 run to extend their lead to 18 points.
North Texas got as close as 10 points with 2:53 left, but Arkansas State held on for the win.
