Green Gang Blog In Hot Springs: Day One

6:43 p.m. - VIDEO Here's part 2 of the tour inside the TV production truck, this time looking at the video control room.  Part 3, the tape area (replays and highlights) will be posted tomorrow morning.  And there's also a chance we will get a look inside the truck tomorrow during a LIVE broadcast...check back tomorrow to see if they let us in...

5:31 p.m. - Just heard from David Watkins of NBC 5 in Dallas, and they are running a story on Tony Mitchell today at 6 p.m., and Sunday night at 10:30 p.m. Should be a great story, so check it out if you are stuck at home and can't make it to Hot Springs!

4:30 p.m. - VIDEO Highlights of the Mean Green's 1st round win over Troy.

4:18 p.m. - Mean Green women's basketball advances to the SBC Quarterfinals tomorrow afternoon with a 75-61 victory over the Troy Trojans.  North Texas notched its largerst win in SBC Tournament play since March 4, 2002 when it downed Western Kentucky 84-52.

4:06 p.m. - VIDEO Steven Bartolotta's 12-game journey continues...

4:00 p.m. - VIDEO Coach Aston's pregame speech.

3:52 p.m. - North Texas has opened its lead back to 16, holding a 63-47 lead over Troy with 7:40 remaining in the game.  The Mean Green just tied its season-high in assists with 16. Laura McCoy leads North Texas in assists with five, just one off of her career-high.

3:13 p.m. - It's halftime here in Hot Springs and the Trojans used a 12-0 run at the end of the half to cut the North Texas lead to seven. Kasondra Foreman tied her season-high in points in the half with 10. The Mean Green has been efficient, collecting 12 assists on 15 baskets made.

2:46 p.m. - The Mean Green come out on fire to begin the game.  Kasondra Foreman already has eight points and North Texas is shooting 80-percent from the floor. Mean Green lead 23-11 with 12:17 left in the first half.

2:24 p.m. - The Sun Belt Conference recognized academic accomplishments before the game and the Mean Green had two Academic Honor Roll recipients (3.0-3.49 GPA) in Laura McCoy and Alyssa Hankins while senior Tamara Torru was a member of the Comissioners List (3.5-4.0 GPA). Junior Jasmine Goldbolt was also presented her certificate for being named Third-Team All-Sun Belt.

2:10 p.m. - VIDEO A brief look at some of the Mean Green Pep Band's performance from last night's Pep Band Spectacular, as well as some thoughts on the entire experience.

2:04 p.m. - The women's team has taken the floor for warmups, but just before they hit the hardwood they gave a special shoutout to the Mean Green Nation ... Take a look!

1:49 p.m.- North Texas has taken the floor to begin warm-ups. Don't forget to follow along through Facebook and Twitter as well for short videos and pictures from all over the arena and Hot Springs as the week continues.

1:34 p.m.- VIDEO Last night, correspondents Blake Manfre and Tyler Bouldin went to the Pep Band Spectacular and asked fans if they could identify famous alumni of Sun Belt schools.  Look for several more of these videos as our time in Hot Springs continues...

1:09 p.m.- Women's basketball has arrived at Summit Arena!  Less than an hour and a half until the official start of the Sun Belt Basketball Championships for the Mean Green Nation. 

12:57 p.m.- VIDEO A quick clip of Steven Bartolotta calling game 1 of 12 over a 3 day span.

12:46 p.m.- We're at halftime in the FIU vs. ULL game and the women's team is on its way to the arena from their hotel.  The halftime show for this first game featured several of the kids that were a part of the Sun Belt Dribble Drive doing a demonstration. Game time is less than two hours away for Mean Green women's basketball!

12:24 p.m.- VIDEO Jerry, The Czar of the Sun Belt Network (as their producer Tom said we should call him), was gracious enough to give us a tour of their tv production truck.  This is part 1 of 3, with the second and third installments coming later in the day.  Starting tomorrow, all games in the Summit Arena will be broadcast on the Sun Belt Network.

11:37 a.m.- We're here in Summit Arena, getting ready for the women's game at 2:30 p.m. ULL and FIU are about to take the court in the game that precedes the Mean Green's matchup with Troy. Below is a picture of the MGRN's Steven Bartolotta, who will begin his marathon of broadcasting when the Ragin' Cajuns and the Golden Panthers tip-off in 12 minutes. He is calling every game but the championship game for the Sun Belt Conference webcast, so make sure to check it out!

10:23 a.m.- VIDEO Last night was the annual Sun Belt Pep Band Spectacular, a gathering of musicians from the entire conference.  We gave a Flip camera to members of the Mean Green Pep Band to get us some inside access to the event.  Later in the day we will have footage of the North Texas performance, as well as some interviews with fans at the event.

8:42 a.m.- Good morning Mean Green Nation!  It's our first full day in Hot Spring and man is it a nice one!  Weather forecast looks great and North Texas women basketball tips-off it's tournament run this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in Summit Arena!  Make sure to stay with us all day as we bring you behind the scenes video and information from around Hot Springs!
