Hall Scores 22 But Mean Green Can't Overcome Denver

DENVER, Colo. (3/1/09) North Texas could not overcome a first-half dry spell and the Denver Pioneers went onto capture a 61-48 win at the Magness Arena. The loss puts North Texas as the No. 11 seed facing the No. 6 seeded Arkansas State Red Wolves on the road in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

The Mean Green (10-19, 6-12) leading 19-13 with 8:58 in the half, were held scoreless the rest of the half while Denver scored 16 unanswered points to take a 29-19 lead into the break.  The drought ended when Mansa El hit 3-pointer with 17 minutes remaining in the game to make it 32-22. Senior Jo Hall had a game-high 22 points and twice she brought North Texas to within six points of the Pioneers in the second half.

Denver (15-14, 10-8) was able to put the game away with an 8-0 run to make it 44-30 with nine minutes remaining. The Mean Green could not get the game any closer than nine points.

The 44 points was a season-low for North Texas in offense this season. Yari Escalera joined Hall in double figures with 13 points off the bench. North Texas begins the SBC Tournament at Arkansas State on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m.
