Campbell Named To Southland All-Decade Team

DENTON, Texas - North Texas women's basketball Athletic Hall of Famer Clara Campbell today was named to the Southland Conference All-Decade Team for the 1980's.

Campbell, who was inducted into the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000, led the Mean Green to its only Southland Conference championship and NCAA tournament bid in the 1985-86 season.

A 6-2 center for the women's basketball team, Campbell averaged 20.4 points and 11.7 rebounds to lead North Texas to its first-ever 20-win season and the Southland Conference championship in 1985-86.

Campbell was named the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year and first team all-conference that year. As a senior, Campbell again paced the Mean Green in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (10.0 rpg) to earn second team all-Southland Conference recognition.

She remains a fixture in the North Texas record books, still holding school records for most points scored in a single season (611), field goals (254), scoring average (20.4), and blocked shots. Campbell scored 1,032 points in her career with North Texas. She remains the school record holder with 136 career blocked shots.
