DENTON, Texas - It's the final regular season home game for the North Texas women's basketball team tonight as they host the Denver Pioneers at 5 p.m. The Mean Green will say farewell to one senior this evening in Denetra Kellum.
Kellum has been the most consistent scorer for North Texas this season, reaching double figures in 24 of the 27 games. She scored a career-high 30 points against Sam Houston State, and has recorded five double-doubles this season. Her most clutch performance of the season came against FIU when she poured in 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
She also went a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line that night, which included a perfect 10-for-10 from the line in the last minute of the game. She is the fourth leading scorer in the Sun Belt Conference this year with 425 points. She needs on 28 more points to move into the top-10 at North Texas for most points in a single season.
North Texas and Denver will meet for the 22nd time in series history. The Mean Green is 8-13 against Denver all-time. The Pioneers beat North Texas 86-67 in the first meeting this season in Denver. North Texas last beat Denver 76-69 on January 14, 2009 at the Super Pit.
At home the Mean Green has won two of the last three against Denver, but the Pioneers lead the series at the Super Pit 6-4 against North Texas.
North Texas will be the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Hot Springs, Ark.
