Trojans Too Much For North Texas In 78-62 Defeat

DENTON, Texas - Three players combined for double figures led by Chasity Reed and UALR extended their winning streak to 17 straight games with a 78-62 win over North Texas at the Super Pit. The Trojans never trailed in the game and Reed, the nation's sixth leading scorer, had a game-high 20 points.  

The trio of Reed, Marian Kursh, and Shanika Butler combined for 56 of UALR's 78 points. Kursh ended the game with a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds.

UALR (22-5, 15-1) opened the game with 10-5 lead but North Texas (7-20, 4-12) got Reed in early foul trouble four minutes into the game. With Reed on the bench, North Texas cut into the UALR lead. Caitlin Hawkins made it a four-point game with a 3-pointer at 23-19 with six minutes left in the first half. The Mean Green kept inching closing off another basket from Hawkins at make it 26-23 UALR with 3:42 left in the half.

UALR closed the half with four straight points from Shelby Ashcraft to extend their lead to 34-27 at the break.  

The second opened with a 10-3 UALR run to open up a 12-point lead at 42-30. The Trojans kept the Mean Green on their heels in the second half by hitting 64 percent of their shots.

North Texas could not get the Trojan led under double digits in the second half. UALR enjoyed their biggest lead of the game at 70-48 as Kursh scored 15 of her 19 points in the second half.

North Texas was led by Ravven Brown who scored 12 points and Brittney James who added 11.

The Mean Green closes out the home portion of the regular season on Wednesday against Louisiana-Lafayette.
