North Texas Women Can't Solve Warhawks Attack

MONROE, La. (2/20/08) The North Texas women’s basketball team couldn’t get over an early slump, falling to Louisiana at Monroe 83-73 on Wednesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The Mean Green (13-14, 8-8) cut a 16 point ULM (17-9, 10-5) lead to seven points in the second half but the Warhawks had an answer each time. Shannon Lloyd was the difference with 15 points, 10 rebounds four steals and a trio of assists.

Jo Hall was an outstanding counter punch for the Mean Green. The junior tallied her 14th double digit outing of the season with 18 points versus the Warhawks.

North Texas notched its second best outing of the season from the free throw line. The Mean Green knocked down 17-of-20 (85.0 percent) from the charity stripe.

ULM learned its lesson on Brittney James. The sophomore went off for 27 points in an overtime loss to the Warhawks last season, but was held to just four on Wednesday.

The Warhawks set the early tempo by dashing out to an 8-0 lead. Erica Howard helped the Mean Green answer with a converted 3-point play, but ULM went on to dominate most of the opening frame.

Lloyd did the majority of the damage with nine points, five rebounds and three assists in the first half alone. ULM converted a 10-3 edge in offensive boards into 13 second chance points in the first.

North Texas cut the ULM lead to five points in the closing seconds of the half on the strength of Hall. The junior tallied 12 first-half points, and the Warhawks went into the break with a 41-36 advantage.

The Mean Green returns to action on Saturday for Senior Night versus Arkansas State. Action versus the Indians begins from the Super Pit at 5 p.m.
