DENTON (2/16/08) - The North Texas women’s basketball team made a season-high nine three-pointers in a 75-50 victory against Troy on Saturday night at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green evens out with a 13-13 record and an 8-6 conference mark, while Troy (10-16, 3-12) has now lost nine of its last ten games. NT leads the series with Troy, 6-1.
NT went 9-for-22 from behind the arc. The three-pointers made and three-point attempts both rank in the top 10 in the North Texas single-game team records.
Yari Escalera scored a career-high 16 points, including four three-pointers. Brittney James scored a team-high 17 points, and Erica Howard followed with 14.
North Texas used a 26-8 run in the first half to take a 34-15 advantage. James scored her 10 first-half points in the run, including two three-pointers.
Escalera kept the Mean Green offense going in the second half with two three-pointers in the opening seven minutes. James added her third of the game in NT’s next possession to put North Texas ahead by 25 points, 58-33, with 12:30 left in the game. Escalera’s fourth three-pointer with 37 seconds left gave NT its largest lead of the game, 75-48.
The Mean Green also dominated on the boards. NT pulled down 52 boards, compared to the Trojans’ 30. NT was two boards shy of tying the season high. James led the team with nine boards.
North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 20 when it faces ULM on the road at 5:30 pm.
