MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (2/15/09) Middle Tennessee overpowered the North Texas women’s basketball team with an early flurry to run away with a 113-58 victory at the Murphy Center. The Blue Raiders extended the nation’s fourth longest winning streak to 17 games as the Mean Green had their two-game winning streak snapped.
The 113 points were the second most point allowed in school history by North Texas and the second most scored by the Blue Raiders.
Middle Tennessee (22-4, 14-0) opened the game with the first six points but North Texas (9-16, 5-9) answered back to take an 11-10 lead after an Amber Jackson basket. That’s when the Blue Raiders blew the game open with a 26-0 run over the next seven minutes to lead 36-11 with eight minutes to play in the half.
Using a barrage of 3-pointers Middle Tennessee pushed its lead to 62-29 at the break. The Blue Raiders had eight 3-pointers at the break and finished the game with 13.
Middle Tennessee did not let up in the second half as they topped the 100-point mark for the second time this year.
Tricia Lee was the lone bright spot for North Texas with a career-high 29 points as she had four 3-pointers in the game. Alysha Clark led the way for Middle Tennessee with 30 points and nine rebounds.
North Texas is back in action on Wednesday night as they begin their final homestand of the year against ULM at 7 p.m.
