James' 18 Not Enough To Spell Hot Shooting Denver Women

DENVER (2/15/07) Brittney James picked up right where she left off, but it wasn’t enough as Denver knocked off the North Texas women’s basketball team 72-63 at Magness Arena.

James, who notched a career-best 27 points against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday, came out on fire against the Pioneers (17-9, 11-5), leading all North Texas (7-17, 4-10) scorers with 18 points. The freshman had a game-high 12 points at the break, marking the second straight game where James reached double-figures by halftime.

The Pioneers proved a hot-shooting squad on Thursday. Denver nailed 48.4 percent of its shots from the floor, while holding the Mean Green to 35.4 percent.

Alisha Godette proved a thorn in the Mean Green’s side as she led three Pioneers in double figures. The junior had a game-high 20 points on 8-12 shooting.

The Mean Green trimmed he lead to six points with just over six minutes remaining in the game, but Godette answered with a 3-pointer to extend the Pioneer lead back to nine, a lead they took to the final.

The Mean Green trailed 40-27 at the half due in large part to turnovers. NT turned the ball over 12 times which led to 16 Pioneer points in the opening frame alone.

The Mean Green returns home to The Super Pit on Saturday to take on UALR. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
