DENTON, Texas (2/13/10) - Four players scored in double-figures to lead the Denver women's basketball team to a 65-58 victory against North Texas on Saturday night at the Super Pit.
The Pioneers improve to 14-11 and 9-5 in the conference and snapped a five-game losing streak. North Texas falls to 7-19 and 4-11 in the Sun Belt. Denver holds a 12-8 lead in the series.
Denver held a three-point halftime lead and was able to hold its lead throughout the second half. North Texas cut the Pioneers lead to three points, 57-54, with 2:42 left in the game, but Denver finished the game on an 8-4 run to seal the win.
Denver's Kaetlyn Murdoch led all scorers with 20 points. Britteni Rice followed with 19. Jasmine Godbolt led the Mean Green with 17 points, her fourth game in double-figures. Brittney James and Denetra Kellum joined her in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Godbolt gave North Texas a six-point lead, 16-10, with a basket at 10:19 in the first half. After two free throws, Godbolt pushed the lead to six again, 18-12. Denver responded with a 10-4 run to take a lead it would not relinquish for the rest of the game.
Emiko Smith hit a three-pointer at 6:20 in the second half to put Denver ahead by 10 points, 53-43. The 10 points was the largest lead of the second half.
The Pioneers shot 47 percent from the field for the game, going 13-for-25 in the second half. North Texas shot 34 percent from the field.
North Texas returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 12 pm against UALR at the Super Pit.
