Women Host East Division Leader Middle Tennessee

DENTON (2/8/06) - It's a battle of the top two teams in the Sun Belt Conference as the Mean Green, leaders of the West Division, hosts the East Division leader Middle Tennessee tonight at 7 pm. The North Texas women's basketball team plays its final home game of the season and looks to conclude its five-game homestand at 4-1 with a win.

Middle Tennessee leads the series,5-3, and has won the last five meetings. The Mean Green won the first three matchups between the two schools and its last win over Middle Tennessee was a 74-72 win in Murfreesboro in 2002. North Texas is 1-3 at the Super Pit against Middle Tennessee. North Texas lost to the Blue Raiders in the SBC Quarterfinals last season,59-58, in overtime.

When Mia Ajekwu reaches double figures, the Mean Green is 7-2 this season. Ajekwu is shooting 61 percent and averaging 14 points in the nine games this season that she has reached double figures. When not reaching double figures this year, Ajekwu is shooting just 29 percent and averaging 4.6 points a game.

North Texas will bid farewell to four seniors tonight. Senior’s Erika Bobo, Natalie Mireles, Mian Williams, and Kennethia Wilson will play their final home game. The four have combined to win 53 games in their careers. They have also combined to score 1,996 points in their careers and notched 30 wins at the Super Pit.
